The NYC Grades 9–14 school model grew from the need to better prepare students for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. The model was developed through collaboration between IBM, the New York City Department of Education, and the City University of New York.

The strength of the model comes from partnership. NYC Department of Education, CUNY, and industry collaborators help shape school design, curriculum alignment, and career-connected learning opportunities.
